Seeking Beta Readers for The New Normal (Inheritance #2)!

The sequel to Discovery and the second book in the Inheritance series is now ready for beta readers! The planned release date is May 3, so I would need anyone who volunteers to beta read this short story to have their feedback submitted by April 26. It’s about 15K words and takes place immediately after Discovery. If you’re interested in giving it a read and leaving your feedback on what needs to be improved, I’d love to have you on the ARC team! Just send me a message and I’ll send you a link to a google doc that you can leave comments on.

Here’s the summary:

After finding Troy naked and locked in a secret room of their new home, Theo and Jun must work to acclimate to their new life together. They help Troy adjust to being a free man again, and Troy even finds himself enjoying the dominant role on occasion. Much to his surprise, Theo craves to submit to both he and Jun.

But a surprise visit from two men that Theo only barely remembers turns their whole world upside down. Jun knows what they’re here for, and it kindles a rage inside him that he hasn’t felt for a very long time. He is determined to keep his lovers safe, even if it means going against a promise he made to Theo.

I have a girlfriend now! A friend who I’ve been spending lots of time with lately and who shares a lot of the same interests (and disabilities) asked me out and I said yes. She’s my first girlfriend and I’m all fluttery and excited and I just want to be around her all the time and it’s so hard to have to work instead of just snuggling and watching TV together LOL. I am feeling 100% how my characters in my stories feel – butterflies and blushing and everything whenever we’re together haha. She’s just so sweet and supportive and I could literally gush about here all day if you let me!

Seeking Advanced Release Readers for the Re-Release of Discovery!

So, I can’t just do one thing… And before you say anything, yes, I know I’m working on a rewrite (Discovery), a sequel short story (to Practice Makes Perfect), and a novel (Depths of Desire). I didn’t get any new questions on NGL this week, so I thought I’d go on the teeniest little rant about my brain. So I’m pretty open about the fact that I have ADHD. I’ve been trying different medications and different strengths of those medications for a year or two now, with varying results. But, guess what? The US is having a shortage on almost all types of ADHD medication!

I honestly can’t express to you how annoying this is. If you’re going through it too, know that I feel for you with the deepest empathy that I have. I’m unable to sleep (stimulants sometimes make ADHD folks tired), I can’t concentrate on literally anything (which is why Discovery still doesn’t have a firm release date) and I just can’t for the life of me remember anything.

I feel like there was a point to this, but guess what? I’ve already forgotten it. No, this is not a joke or a bit – I seriously can’t remember why I wanted to bitch about it here.

Seeking Beta Readers for the Re-Release of Discovery!

So I told my mailing list last week, but I’ve decided to re-release Discovery, pretty much completely rewriting it. I’ve got the draft all done, which means I’m ready for beta readers and will soon be looking for folks who want to read advance copies to review for me! Get to Know Me with NGL

I wasn’t sure what to put here, so I asked a friend and they suggested answering a couple questions from the app NGL each week. Why not, right? One my friend suggested was ‘most embarrassing moment’ and whooooo boy, do I have some of those LOL!

So I was in 3rd grade, I think, and there was an assembly where we all went to the gymnasium and saw a magician perform on stage. At the time I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but it was probably a tie between ‘dig up dino bones’ and ‘be a magician,’ so you can imagine how stoked I was!

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to leave the assembly for any reason. And I mean any reason. So when I asked to use the bathroom first, I was told to wait until after the assembly – it wouldn’t be that long.

And then, the best thing ever happened – I got chosen to be the magician’s assistant! I got up on stage, vibrating with excitement….and peed my pants in front of the whole school. I immediately ran off stage and to the bathroom, and I will never forget the embarrassment I felt in that moment.

Now for the question – biggest red flags in a partner? Honestly, I feel like I have horrible radar when it comes to red flags, but my cats not liking them is a big sign. My nesting partner is a great judge of character, and if he doesn’t like someone then they probably won’t be a good fit. Not saying I go along with whatever he says, quite the contrary, but all the time I’ve ignored his advice, he’s been right lol.

Hello again everyone, and thanks for dropping by! I’ve been feeling a bit down lately, but knowing that I have such wonderful and devoted fans is really a huge bump to my mental health. As for physical health, well…let’s just say that my body is trying to make everything difficult for me right now, but my rheumatologist prescribed something that ‘should help’

Updating Tainted Belief (Again. Some More.)

If you’ve been here for a few weeks, you might remember mid-November’s update where I talked about allll the things I’m learning as I start my new career as an author of spicy M/M romance. Well, guess what? I’m still learning

I’ve received some great reviews on Tainted Belief, which was my first spicy gay story that I put out for public consumption. But there have been a few people who’ve pointed out a glaring error that I had to fix.

In the story, Levi (or Leviathan, if he’s going by his demon name) is trans. I had previously referred to him in the story and the blurb for the book as a ‘succubus.’

I’m going to let you in on a not-so-big secret here – authors have tons of lore for their characters that readers never see. In my lore for Levi, he had transitioned after being cast from Heaven and becoming a demon. “Succubus” was more of a job title than a species, in the universe I had created in my mind for this book, so Levi would have been given his job title before transitioning.

But this was never explained in the book, which meant that no one who read it had that backstory, and the fact that I used what they perceived to be the ‘wrong’ term was upsetting. Rather than go through and add a new chapter that would be strictly exposition, I’ve simply changed the word from succubus to incubus in the latest release.

I’ll be working through the promos I’ve posted so far, but some unfortunately cannot be changed. I will stick with the word ‘incubus’ for describing Levi in the future. And I am truly, deeply sorry for any discomfort that using ‘succubus’ to refer to him has caused. It was definitely an oversight on my part not to explain further in the book.

Who are these beautiful creatures?

Something that I’ve been wanting to do more is get myself into this business a bit more. I’ve watched a few seminars on romance authors who suggest creating a ‘persona’ or ‘avatar’ for your public-facing author profile, but I say fuck that. We’re all adults here, and if you want to get to know me, I’m gonna give you the real deal.

So, starting with some of the most important things in my life – my cat-children – I’d like to include a little ‘get to know the author’ section in my weekly updates. I might not always share them here on the blog, though, so if you want all the super secret info on me, join my mailing list <3

This is Copernicus. He has been in my life for longer than he has not. I got him in my first year of college, in 2005, and the shelter estimated that he was about a year old at that point. That makes him roughly 18 years old. He is my precious little prince who can do no wrong (but actually he does), and he is also a grumpy old man who doesn’t like to hang out with the other cats (but actually he does).
Nicknames include Pooky, Pooka, and The Little Prince.

This majestic poofy blob is Busey. He’s a half Norwegian Mountain Cat and half Maine Coon. No, he’s not part Scottish Fold, he just loves things too much. He snuggled something he shouldn’t have and now he has kitty cauliflower ear (like what boxers and grapplers get). This picture does not properly convey his enormous size (20 lbs! We’re trying to get him down to 18, but he won’t run on his kitty wheel) nor his enormous love.
Nicknames include: Chonk, Monk, Chonkmonk, Big Man, and Giant Teddybear.

This is Nugget. Nugget is a little different. He’s a special needs boy who can’t see very well and was born without a tail. He was also born with what the vet called ‘some sort of kitty developmental disorder.’ He’s just not like most cats and doesn’t understand things like how Mr. Copernicus likes his personal space and might find it a little upsetting if someone were to stick their nose in his butt. He also sometimes bites when he’s too happy, but not very hard. Usually. here he is not understanding how to use toys ->
Nicknames include: Bug, Nugbug, Buggle, Buglin, and Tweety Bug.

NaNoWriMo

…is finally over! For those of you who don’t know, this was my first year trying National Novel Writing Month. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s basically where people challenge themselves during the month of November to write 50K-100K words in a month. You set your personal goal at the beginning (I chose 50K) and are supposed to write & update your profile with what you’ve done each day.

I didn’t meet my goal, but I still got probably 1/4 of the story for Depths of Desire written, and the majority of the rest of it outlined. It’s been a great experience, and I think I’ll definitely try again next year, but maybe with a bit more ‘prep’ in the month of October. You know, as opposed to the none that I did this year.

Depths of Desire

The new story I started for NaNoWriMo is called Depths of Desire. In case you missed the update, it’s about an actor named Percival Warrens, Percy for short, who is filming a movie about mermaids. He is, in fact, the star of the film, and gets to wear a gorgeous custom mermaid tail and everything.

But while they’re out at sea filming, a storm throws him overboard and sinks the ship. But he’s the protagonist, so he can’t die, right? However, his rescuer is none other than a real merman, who tries to take Percy as his mate!

Last week, I mentioned that I was looking for a cover artist, but this week I felt super creative and decided to give it a go on my own. Mailing list subscribers got to see the concept I came up with and give their opinions. Why not subscribe now?

I’m sooo excited to announce that Practice Makes Perfect is officially available for everyone! It’s 100% free on Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and Google, but currently $0.99 on Amazon. They say they’re working on the price match, but we’ll see. I know I did! But I have to admit, I’ve been pretty exhausted since then. Just trying to stay consistent with promotions for stuff plus my regular job on top of all that has me wanting another vacation haha! Not this month, though! Maybe around Yule?

NaNoWriMo

For the first time ever, I’ve decided to give NaNoWriMo a try! Of course, I was busy with Samhain celebrations for the first week of November, plus the recent cover reveal and of course getting Practice Makes Perfect all squared away and ready for its release later this month. All that is to say, I’ve gotten off to…not the best start haha. Oh well, it’s all supposed to be for fun, right?

My goal is around 50K words, and I’m sitting at…1808, as of writing this newsletter. Oops! I’ll (hopefully!) get back on track, but if you want to watch my progress, feel free to add me as a friend on the NaNoWriMo website!
